Jackson Hole to Great Falls (7)

As soon as we left Jackson Hole, WY we climbed over the 8,431 ft Teton Pass and entered eastern Idaho, driving north, up the western side of Yellowstone National Park. The Teton Pass has grades up to 10 per cent and restricted weight limits for large trucks. Ski runs are easily found at the top of the pass.

Once back on flat ground, I was amazed at how much wheat and potatoes were grown in this area. We drove through some of the largest fields we have seen before entering The Targhee National Forest.

West Yellowstone, Montana is another interesting western town, although very touristy. As the name implies, it is the western entrance to the park, and is chocked full of interesting shops, motels and restaurants.

Even the local McDonalds doesn't look the same.

From West Yellowstone we headed north, through The Gallatin National Forest, which forms the northwest corner of Yellowstone. These pictures were taken along the Gallatin River, which flows north, out of the park. Fly fisherman were at every turn.

Lunch today came at Tony Carino's Italian Restaurant in Bozeman, MT. The food was excellent! They called it "Country Italian" because every thing in the west is cowboy related.

From there it was all about mileage until we reached Great Falls, MT, where we are staying tonight.

I should also note to expect Internet service to be less than reliable in Canada. We should be in Canada tomorrow or the next day.

The weather today was a duplicate of all the other days with one exception. This afternoon we drove through a vicious little thunderstorm which packed high winds and light hail, but shortly after it was again sunny with blue skies. Hopefully any bad weather will get past us tonight.

  1. McDonalds? Italian food? Ok. I'm officially jealous. LOL

Sidenote: Got to thinking about your car. Maybe you should find a place in civilization to buy a bra for the front of it. They still make those and although not beautiful, it would really save your car the embedded bugs. Just a thought!
